Health & Safety

We take Health & Safety very seriously, and will never knowingly sell you furniture that is broken and could cause injury.

We do not usually carry furniture upstairs. This means that you will need to organise someone to be on hand to help you, if you do need to take your furniture upstairs.



Trading Standards Electrical Goods Information


Electrical Items

All electrical items are tested for safety before they are put on sale. In addition:

  • Fridges and Freezers are temperature tested to make sure they work
  • Microwaves are tested to ensure they do not leak microwaves
Washers, cookers and tumble-dryers are taken to our neighbouring Furniture Re-use Project in Coalville where they undergo further tests:
  • Washing machines are connected up to a water supply to ensure programmes work.
  • Washing machines, cookers and tumble-dryers are tested by an electrician.




Trading Standards Used Furniture Information


Soft Furniture

We are not allowed to resell soft furniture without proper labels saying that it conforms to the 1988 Fire Regulations. When you offer us soft furniture we will check that the labels are in place.



Glass Items

We will also check that glass items e.g. doors/shelves in cupboards have the British Safety Standard kitemark.

We can accept smoked glass as this is toughened.
